Smith Online MBA: Why Smith?
Watch as Gary Cohen, Associate Dean for the Office of Executive Programs, and Judy Frels, Academic Director, Online MBA highlight what differentiates the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business Online MBA from other online MBA programs.
Gary: There are many online programs in the marketplace, so the big question is, “Why Smith?” Of course, we’re aware of that and we’ve thought very carefully about this before we decided on this launch. Number one, first and foremost, we’re a highly ranked business school.
Judy: We have some of the top researchers in the world, looking at issues in marketing, in pricing, and web analytics, social media, IT, management, leadership, health care. We have a very creative, competitive yet collaborative culture.
Gary: In our opening residency for our online program, we have an action learning project where students learn to create something new together. They’re inventing a product.
They’re being innovative and creative as entrepreneurs, and putting together a proposal to create a brand new product.
Judy: This is an opportunity in each of our MBAs for the MBA students to get in teams and work on a project. The project comes from a couple different places. One might be a company comes to us and says, “These are things that actually our company’s struggling with and it would be a real benefit for us to have a group of MBAs dedicate time, and also an outside perspective on exactly what’s going on here.”
Gary: We have a very rigorous curriculum so it will be challenging just like it would be if students took it on the ground here. We’re very proud of the brand and what the Smith School has to offer students.
